New Mexico Scenery

I recently took a trip out to northern New Mexico for a friend’s wedding.  While there, I took a number of pictures of the various scenery.  A local was telling me that within a 40-50 mile span, there were 5 different topographical regions ranging from desert all the way up to snow covered mountains.  The trip was incredible, and I wish I had more time to study the plants and landscape.  The landscape in most yards is a lot different than the landscape here in the midwest, mainly because the cost of water is too high to make it affordable.

Here are a number of scenic pictures from the trip.

Tulsa Home and Garden

I will be attending the Tulsa Home and Garden show this year.  It will be held at the QuikTrip Center (Expo Center) from March 11-14.  Cost is $8 per person, $7 for seniors, and children under 12 are free.

I am really excited about the show.  It’s been a cold and cloudy winter.  The sun is finally starting to come back out, and the days are getting warmer.  Spring is definitely in the air, and home owners will be ready to give their homes a facelift.  This show will be able to give home owners a number of ideas including a new backyard, hardscape ideas, and even spring and summer colors.

For more information, visit the Tulsa Home and Garden site.

Friday Fun – Tree Win

Get rid of the burlap!!!

As plants grow and mature at the nurseries, they either are transfered into a larger container or, if they are a larger plant/tree, their root ball will be wrapped in burlap and tied with twine.  In fact, the burlap root ball is a popular way to grow many different plants but it’s especially effective with growing conifer trees.

Every once in a while, we will come across a tree where the installation landscape company did a half-effort job, leaving the burlap sack tied tightly against the tree truck.  Here is an emerald green arborvitae where the twine and burlap are still exposed a year after being planted.
